Activating your Ultra Mobile plan is easy, but we understand that trying new things can be intimidating. That’s why we’ve made this helpful guide for you to follow along on your wireless savings journey. Plus, you really only have to activate your plan once. After that, saving on wireless is easy breezy from here on out. 


Here are some pre-activation tips to make the activation process even easier, especially if you’re transferring your number.

Pre-Activation Tips

Before you begin, make sure you’ve checked off these things:

  1. Make sure your phone is unlocked and compatible with Ultra Mobile. You can do that here.
  2. If you’re bringing your number (aka transferring your number) you’ll need this information:
    • Account Number from your soon-to-be old wireless carrier
    • Pin (sometimes known as a Number Transfer PIN)
    • Billing zip code
  3. Make sure you have a strong Wi-Fi connection

If you’re getting a new number, you can skip number 2. 

Okay, the last thing you need to do before you activate, is find out if you’re activating a Purple SIM or an Orange SIM.

What is the difference between a Purple SIM and an Orange SIM?

Purple SIMs are unfunded SIMs which means you still have to choose your wireless plan during the activation process. 

Orange SIMs are pre-funded SIMs that already have an Ultra Mobile plan associated with the first plan cycle. After the first cycle, you can decide if that’s the right data amount for you or change if you need more or less. Check your data usage anytime in the Ultra Mobile App. You can easily tell by looking at the physical plan you either picked up at a store or ordered online. Make sure to enter the correct colored SIM so that you are led down the correct activation process.

How to Activate a Purple SIM

If you’re activating on desktop:

  1. Go to my.ultramobile.com/activation.
    Click the image of the Purple SIM and enter the 11-digit activation number located on the back of your SIM card. 
  2. When prompted, select your data plan of choice and duration.
    We have a variety of plan options to fit all of your wireless needs depending on your budget and desired data amount. Select the plan you would like to buy. You can always buy a bigger plan later so we recommend starting with what you need and going up from there. 
  3. Transfer your number or get a new one.
    As mentioned above, you can transfer your existing phone number or get a new one assigned to you. Make sure you have all the necessary information from your existing carrier before you transfer your number for the smoothest process. 
  4. Add a form of payment.
    All you need to switch to Ultra is an Ultra Mobile SIM, plan and a form of payment. You can pay using a debit or credit card. As part of the activation process, you can also enroll in Auto Renew to ensure you’ll never have to worry about forgetting a payment. You can also get up to 10% off when you enable Auto Renew and put your wireless savings on auto-pilot.

How to activate a Purple SIM in-store

How to Activate an Orange SIM

If you’re activating on desktop:

How to activate an Orange SIM in-store

By Text Message: To activate your SIM and get a new local phone number, insert the SIM card and then text GOGO + your 5-digit zip code to 6700. Please note that you can not transfer your phone number this way.

How to Activate with eSIM

The third way to activate an Ultra Mobile plan is by eSIM.

eSIM, also known as an embedded SIM, is a completely virtual programmable card that does what physical SIM cards do: securely connects you with your network and provides access to your service so you can use your plan.

eSIMs are delivered via email after you’ve purchased your Ultra Mobile plan online. 

How to Activate with eSIM

  • On iOS
    • Scan the QR code sent to your email using the phone your Ultra service will be on. 
    • Simply follow the prompts onscreen.
  • On Android
    • Go to Network & Internet in your device Settings.
    • Tap on Add Mobile Network (the + icon)
    • Select Download a SIM instead.
    • Follow directions on your device till you reach the scanner.
    • Tap on the Need help button below the scanner.
    • Proceed with Enter it manually and paste the QR code there.
